what can brown do for you?

A New Start

It’s been way too long since I’ve updated you all on my personal life here so I figured I may as well do so now. After looking at all of the universities on my “To-Consider” list and evaluating the final costs of each, factoring in financial aid and scholarships, I have determined that Concordia University here in Austin, Texas will be the best fit for me. Not only is it close in distance to my home and community, but it is also less than 2 miles up the road from where I work. This will make for both a quick commute and a good way to save money, being that I won’t have to spend much on gas (relatively speaking). This way, I’ll also be able to make back some of the money I’m losing paying for school; it will be nice to have some sort of income stream all the way through school. I was also awarded a very generous academic Presidential Scholarship and a community scholarship, which combined will cover more than half of the expenses per year up-front. This alone is a huge blessing. Starting off, I am planning on majoring in International Business, and hopefully that will turn out to be a good fit for me - but you know what they say about people changing their majors 3 times or more while in college. I attended orientation a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it; it provided a good taste of how a typical day will flow for me. I am still waiting on my final class schedule however, so I won’t know exactly what classes I’ll be taking for a couple weeks yet. I’m very much looking forward to the upcoming school year and this entering a new stage in life, and I’m going to try and keep you all updated as frequently as I can. You may also notice a new layout on this site. That’s something I just finished, and I’m slowly going to be adding more features in the coming weeks. Comments are already live, to leave one (I’d appreciate it), just click the square icon in the upper left-hand corner of every post. Let me know how you like it! Until next time…

Visit to Howard-Payne

Well, I just got back from an all-day college visit to Howard-Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Left around 6:30 in the morning so it was a long day, but I had a great time. I met with the departments of Business, Financial Aid, and Admissions for a scholarship interview. Later on in the day we were given a very nice tour of the campus by a good friend of mine. After that we had a lunch in the very nice cafeteria, and I also got the outstanding opportunity to sit in on an English Composition class. I liked seeing the dynamics of the low teacher – student ratio in action…it gave me a reminder of why I had applied to solely private universities. Our time ended around 4:00 with a closing ceremony, and with that we were on the road. It was a very good experience that encouraged me as I begin the final stage of the college selection process.
