The Abilene Recap
Well, I got back from that trip to Abilene that I told you about a couple of weeks ago, and I have to say, it went much better than I expected. We drove up the night before, as our visit there was scheduled to start at 7 am. The day started with a quick breakfast and conference with the admissions advisors, after which we embarked on a lengthy tour of the campus. I was impressed by the age (or lack thereof) of many of the buildings - around a quarter of the campus had just recently been rebuilt, I later found out. Many of the facilities are very well-kept and state of the art, with technology being made a central factor in the learning experience. After the tour was rounded up, it was time for my set of two 30-minute interviews. Both went far better than I could have hoped; I was able to communicate to the interviewers everything I wanted to say in an effective and timely fashion, which was great. The interviews are one of the big factors in deciding who gets the scholarships I am a finalist for, so it was a pretty important event for me. I should be hearing back from them on whether or not I got the scholarship in late March or early April, so for now I’m just in the waiting stage. As soon as I hear back from the other colleges I’m considering, I’ll be able to make a final decision on what college I’ll be attending this fall. Our day up at Abilene Christian ended with a luncheon with the president of the university and a few short speeches by various members of the faculty. Overall, I was very impressed with the university - it certainly is ranking in my top 3 choices right now, so we’ll just have to give it a month and see what I decide! Be expecting a few posts later this week, both here and over on Six and One. If you want more frequent updates, feel free to go on over to my Twitter stream - and as always, comments are welcome! Until next time…
